Looks like Chinese dog leather industry is no less barbaric than its dog & cat fur industry. Dogs are brutally (but efficiently) bludgeoned to death with a metal stick and then skinned. Bodies are sold for meat and skins are processed into leather subsequently used to manufacture belts, gloves and other leather products sold in North America, Europe and elsewhere.
Can we stop these atrocities? The answer is, unfortunately, ‘No’. Unlike fur (which is a luxury), leather is a necessity. Fur products manufacturers, retailers and buyers care about their reputation and image; the same guys in dog leather industry can not care less. Authorities in China are quite happy – the butchers provide employment, help solve the feral dogs’ problem and possibly even pay taxes. And, frankly, being bludgeoned to death with one skillful blow (two at most) is not the same as being skinned alive.
Therefore, alas, we can do absolutely nothing about it. Only waste our time, effort and possibly money.
